HOME INSPECTION: GUTTERS

A gutter’s job is to collect water that drains off your roof from rain or snow. Once it collects in the gutter, downspouts direct the water away from your home’s foundation. Leaves and debris can gather in gutters during the fall. If you fail to clean the collected debris from the gutters, they don’t effectively do their job. Some people recommend gutter covers to keep leaves and pine needles from collecting and clogging the system. Be sure to keep an eye on the gutter covers, damming the ice and seeping under shingles.
